Oregon DPSST Armed Security Officer Course

 

 This course will allow the student to apply as an armed security officer through the state of Oregon.

 

 Previous Unarmed Training required.

I. Sound judgment and preparedness

b. Important responsibilities for the armed security professional.

c. Varieties of preparedness

d. Elements of a decision to use deadly force

 

II. Use of Force

 

a. The differences between law enforcement “duty to act” and private security

b. How you may become the “aggressor”

c. Your responsibilities after using deadly force.

d. Criminal penalties for unlawful use of force

e. Elements of shooting decisions.

f. Importance of verbal identification and commands

g. Elements of decision-making training

h. Three conditions which must exist to justify the use of deadly force

i. Shooting decision scenarios

 

III. Ammunition

 

a. Components of a cartridge

b. Basis for ammunition performance

c. Causes for defective ammunition

d. Proper range procedure for dealing with defective ammunition

e. Hazards of using reloaded ammunition on duty

f. Why it is desirable to test fire duty ammunition

IV. Nomenclature and inspection of handguns
