DPSST Unarmed Security Officer course

 

This course will allow the student to apply as an unarmed security officer through the state of Oregon.

 

What will be covered:

 

I. Deportment and Ethics

 

a. Private security services provider professionalism

b. Cultural dynamics in private security

 

II. When and how to notify public authorities

 

a. Role of private security officer

b. Reporting emergencies

 

III. The fundamentals of patrolling and contacts in the field

 

a. Foot or vehicle patrol

b. Citizen contacts in the field

c. Tactical communications with emotional, angry, hostile or intoxicated citizens

 

IV. Fire detection, reporting and safety issues

 

a. Responsibility and safety issues

b. Fire science

 

V. Legal powers and limitations of private security officers including but not limited to arrest search and seizure and the appropriate use of force.

 

a. Introduction to the criminal justice system

b. Criminal law

c. Arrest, search and seizure

d. Civil law

e. Juvenile law

 

VI. Techniques of observing and reporting incidents and how to prepare an incident report

 

a. Preliminary investigations

b. Report writing

c. Courtroom testimony

 

This course includes 8 hours classroom training and an assessment module.
